Building in the Scottish Highlands
The Scottish Highlands present a unique set of challenges for the architect. The climate is unforgiving: horizontal rain, sub-zero winters, and winds that can strip paint from steel. Access roads are often single-track. Supply chains are long and unreliable.
And yet, there is nowhere on earth we would rather build.
The landscape of the Highlands is a masterclass in restraint. Vast, empty, and profoundly beautiful, it demands an architecture that is equally spare — buildings that are strong enough to endure and humble enough to disappear.
